Wadworth
Microalgae Biomass Sustainability project (MISTY)
The project aims to boost yields from algae farming in the UK by co-culturing microalgae with bacteria, using wastewater from the brewing and dairy industries.

Wadworth are working with Green Fuels Research who have won funding under the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s Biomass Feedstocks Innovation Programme for its Microalgae Biomass Sustainability project (MISTY).
Whilst at an early stage, the research is exploring the cultivation of microalgal strains under the UK’s weather conditions. If successful, the project could potentially bring innovative and alternative low-cost wastewater treatment solutions to smaller breweries and enable disposal of zero-value waste streams whilst sustainably industrialising a high-value bioenergy resource, decarbonising value chains and combating climate change.
