St Austell
Project Title: Operation Segregation
Subject area: Carbon emissions / Water efficiency / Energy efficiency / Waste reduction / Improved packaging and recycling / Sustainable production and working with the supply chain / sustainability in pubs / other environmental projects in the local area
Objectives: To become as circular as possible- that is to maximise the total volume of our waste that is recycled, redistributed, reused, or otherwise diverted from incineration.
Reduce general waste creation by 80%
Project description: St Austell Brewery has launched an ambitious recycling initiative aiming to reduce general waste across its 45 managed pubs by 80% in one year. In partnership with Biffa, the scheme introduces a streamlined, colour-coded waste segregation system to divert waste from incineration, promoting a more circular approach- the business has already achieved zero waste to landfill. Staff are encouraged to take part through incentives, including rewards for top-performing pubs. The initiative also includes creative reuse, such as repurposing old brewery clothing into new products.
Outcomes: With early success already visible, the project supports the brewery’s wider sustainability goals and is set to expand to breweries and head offices.
Additional information: The PR will be launched in the next couple of weeks- with images and stats.
